A weekend in Spilimbergo for The Days of Light

Le Giornate della luce

This week, ItalyMovieTour's proposal for a Weekend with cinema takes us to Spilimbergo.

From tomorrow to June 18, the Spilimbergo third edition of The Days of Light takes place. An original festival in the scenery of Italian film festivals dedicated to the authors of Italian cinema photography.

The festival – curated by Gloria De Antoni and Donato Guerra – celebrates the role of the cinematographers of our time, the masters of light, and at the same time the brightest days of the year, the summer solstice, within a framework of excellence: Spilimbergo.

The programme of The Days of the Light – a festival that will involve many municipalities of Friuli Venezia Giulia – will culminate in the awarding of Il Quarzo di Spilimbergo – Light Award. This prize will be awarded to the best cinematographer for the photography of an Italian film of the last season by a jury of experts. The jury is chaired by Piero Colussi and consists of Babak Karimi, Oreste De Fornari, Steve Della Casa, Francesca Amitrano and Giuseppe Lanci.

Film screenings, meetings with cinematographers, film directors, actors, national and international guests, workshops, exhibitions on cinema and photography, with particular attention to the presence of numerous Italian and European film schools.

Attending the Festival is also an opportunity to know or refresh the knowledge of Spilimbergo, this beautiful town in the province of Pordenone, located on the right bank of Tagliamento.

In the area there are historical traces dating back to Roman times, but its true story begins around the eleventh century. At that time, in fact, the counts Spengenberg (from them it's derived the name of city) originating in Carinthia transplanted themselves into the area as vassals of the Patriarch of Aquileia.

Numerous are the buildings of historical significance and truly fascinating its historical center.

Spilimbergo is also a very vibrant city from a cultural point of view. Here are hold important events such as Folkest, an international folk music festival that has come to the thirty-ninth edition and hosts the Friuli School of Mosaicism that gives Spilimbergo the name of City of Mosaics.

During the Festival cultural tours, wine tastings and animations in the historic center.
