The story of the set, the unruly Italian troupe, the love story of these two elders who, says the director, are a model to grow old together.

An Italian in Los Angeles

The Italian director is in Los Angeles here to meet a small group of foreign journalists on the occasion of the premiere of his film Ella & John - The Leisure Seeker. A premiere premiered by Sony Classics, the film had to go out in American theaters now, but then it was postponed to March 9th to avoid "the clogging" in the cinemas of the films in contention for the Oscars. A premiere is also anomalous as sponsored by the American Pensioners Association (AARP) and preceded by numerous advertisements on products and medical insurance for the elderly, in line with the theme of the film.

Synopsis

The story of a couple, inseparable for more than 50 years; she, Elle grappling with the terminal stage of a cancer and he, John former professor of English literature with advanced Alzheimer's. The two, without saying anything to anyone, and leaving their two children in a panic, start with their camper called The Leisure Seeker (the fun seeker) for an on-the-road ride from Pennyslvania to Florida. Through the states of the South, to get to Key West and Hemingway's house that John had always dreamed of seeing.

Return to America

The return of Virzì to America was as adventurous as the shooting of his film: baggage lost by British Airlines, the race by Armani for a dress for the first, interviews with his English more than passable throughout the day. The evening gala, then the departure the next morning for New York to repeat everything before returning to Italy. Virzì confesses that making this film was not an immediate decision, indeed. Ella & John - The Leisure Seeker, is the true "American" film by the director from Livorno, based on the 2009 novel by Michael Zadoorian "In viaggio contromano", published in Italy by Marcos y Marcos. Virzì adapted the book along with regular collaborators such as Francesco Piccolo, Francesca Archibugi and Stephen Amidon who had inspired the human capital with the novel of the same name and that on that occasion he was a co-writer.
