On March 14, 2003 was released in cinemas I'm not scared by Gabriele Salvatores.

It is definitely one of the best films of the director.

It is based on the novel by Niccolò Ammaniti, who is also author of the screenplay for the film along with Francesca Marciano.

The film has won numerous awards: two David of Donatello, three Silver Ribbons, the Golden Globe and was chosen as the film to represent Italy at the Oscar.

Synopsis

Io non ho paura

Michele, ten, lives in a small town in Basilicata. With her younger sister and other friends he likes to ride his bike on the country roads among the wheat.

The mother Anna is a housewife and his father Pino is a truck driver. One day, intrigued by a sheet metal door next to a ruined house, Michele opens it and sees a hole. At the bottom there is a foot coming out from a blanket. When he recovered from the initial shock, returns to the scene. He discovers that the foot belongs to a child, Filippo, who has more or less his age, is blond and delicate, but almost blind to be forced in the dark.

Michele began attending Filippo; brings him something to eat, talks to him, trying to pull him up.

One day Michele hears on TV the news of the kidnapping of a certain Filippo in Milan and suddenly understands what is happening.

Meanwhile he arrives home Sergio the Milanese, violent and dangerous man who drives the gang of child kidnappers. The entire family of Michele is involved. Meanwhile the investigation into the kidnapping intensify, the helicopters turn. The panic occurs among robbers, and they conclude that should kill the hostage. For this is chosen the father of Michele. But he not to be won. He runs to save him. He comes the father who thinks he shoot the child, but he affects his son Michele. Pino comes out with his son in his arms and calls on him to revive him.

Meanwhile back Filippo, just to review Michele. Sergio tries to kill him, but come the police helicopter and arrested him along with Pino and others. Michele wakes up and in the last scene of the film Michele and Filippo, rescued by the police, they hold hands.

Cast

Among the main performers the two young Giuseppe Cristiano (Michele Amitrano) and Mattia Di Pierro (Filippo Carducci), Dino Abbrescia and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón in the shoes of Michele's parents: Pino and Anna Amitrano and Diego Abatantuono who plays Sergio (this interpretation is awarded with the Silver Ribbon and the Golden Ciak for the Actor in a Supporting Role).

Location

The film is set in a small rural village of Basilicata and was shot largely in Melfi, Lagonegro and Rapolla.

Other scenes were filmed in Apulia, amid the wheat fields near Candela, in the Murgia and the Ofanto river valley, in Capitanata.

Wonderful location enhanced by the masterful, award-winning photography of Italo Petriccione.
