In the war for love: the PIF film at the Rome Film Festival

Last night, for the last of the pre-opening of the Rome Film Festival, was screened In the war for love. It's the second film of the director and actor Pierfrancesco PIF Diliberto after The mafia kills only in the summer.

The plot is that of a love story and the tone is that of comedy.

At the height of World War II the young Arturo (Pierfrancesco PIF Diliberto) is in love with Flora (Miriam Leone). He is reciprocated, but Flora is betrothed to the son of a major boss. To be able to marry Flora, Arturo must obtain the consent of her father who lives in a small town in Sicily. To do so, Arturo, who has no economic means, find a solution. He enlists in the US Army as it prepares for landing in Sicily.

Behind this story of love and the tragicomic ideas of the film, returns as underlying theme the Mafia.

In a sort of prequel to the previous film. Here it is told the story of the covenant made between the Anglo-American allies and the Mafia in key anti-communist in 1943 during the landing in Sicily.

Pierfrancesco PIF Diliberto believes that there are certain documents that prove this thesis. Recalls the Scotten report, the officer who was commissioned to draw up a report on the Mafia. "The Allies liberated the North by the fascists thanks to the partisans and the South thanks to the Mafia ......... I made a comedy to show how a seemingly distant historical event has created the conditions for the rise of crime, marking the history of our country"

Locations

The film was shot in particular in Sicily and in Rome.

In Sicily, the middle of the action was the town of Erice (TP).

For a month the medieval village turned into a movie set. The whole country was involved. Many of Erice and Trapani participated in the filming of the movie with small parts or simply as extras.

Other scenes were shot in the municipality of Realmonte (AG) at the famous Turkish Steps. More at Eraclea Minoa in the town of Cattolica Eraclea (AG).
