The inexorable time in the Apennines

Appennino, the third film that Emiliano Dante turns "around" to the earthquake.

Into the Blue

He started in 2009, just after the shock that had hit his city (L'Aquila) hard, with Into the Blue. In which he told the daily life of life in a tent immediately after the earthquake. And also, the breaking up and recomposition of personal bonds and, through these, of the social fabric.

Habitat

Five years later (in 2014) he returns to the topic, with Habitat. Still to explore the evolution of interpersonal relationships in the frantic attempt at an existential reconstruction even before materiality.

Apennines

Appennino was supposed to be the third film to reflect on the evolution of this "social reconstruction". But, due to the earthquake that hit central Italy just after the start of filming, the film soon "resets". As in a time machine, precariousness returns, the curtains. Above all, human relationships break down and are rebuilt ... ... the swirling alternation between frustration for what has been lost and the euphoria for new projects come back.

Apennines ... A DOCUMENTARY

Dante's work does not set itself a documentary objective in the strict sense. The purpose of his work should not be traced back to the story of the event, but to the documentation of the long-term effects of the event itself. The stated objective of the film is, therefore, again to tell the human relationships.

Main actor: TIME

The film soon turns into a reflection on the flow of time and its circular nature.

What I am seeing is the past, the present or the future?

On closer inspection, the obsession with time has always been present in all of Dante's works: in every film there is, in one way or another, a counter that marks the filmic time.

The spectator risked losing himself (hence I have already passed) in the gorge of time: what I am seeing is the past, the present or the future? Perhaps this repeating always the same and always different from the same situations, is nothing but life and a movie (this film). Like life, it's what happens to you while you're busy developing other projects.
