Donatella is a girl of humble origins who, thanks to a series of events, finds herself guarding the home of a rich lady. There she meets Maurizio, a friend of the lady, and between blooms the love. But when the man discovers her origins he thinks that Donatella aimed only to his money. To discover the truth proposes to marry him but surprisingly the girl refuses. Elsa Martinelli won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
