Ernesto, sixteen year old jewish boy who wants to be a violinist, lives with his mother and his uncles. Thanks to his aunt's recommendation, starts to work in a trading company. Here he meets a porter who is interested in him. Ernesto, out of curiosity, starts having a homosexual relationship with him. When he realizes that he's not in love, leaves him and quits the job and concentrates on studying the violin. During a concert, he meets Emilio, another violinist. He is charmed by him but, when Ernesto meets Emilio's twin sister, he becomes insecure and confused because he likes her too. Michele Placido won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
