N/ACarlo, come back from Bari, is in love with Maria, a farmer's daughter of Alberobello. The two are in love but her father has engaged her to his landlord to pay his debts. Maria refuses his father decisions but Carlo, blinded by the jealousy, returns to Bari where he will live a reckless life and will have an affair with Silvana. Meanwhile Maria, tired of waiting for Carlo's return, agrees to marry the landlord, finding herself happy.
