Based on Mario Puzo's novel of the same name, it's the story of Vito Corleone, the "godfather", the most powerful and respected Italian-American boss mafioso in the city of New York, his children and the feuds between the rival families. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role to Marlon Brando and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. Moreover the movie won the Golden Globes Awards for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director - Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Motion Picture Actor - Drama to Marlon Brando; it won also a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and a David di Donatello for Best Foreign Film, while Al Pacino won the Special David for his acting.
