Fan of Wagner, betrayed by him, in love with his cousin Elisabeth of Austria, abandonned by her, tormented by his homosexuality, he will little by little slip towards madness. It won the David di Donatello for the Best Film, Best Director and a Special David to the Male Performance; the Silver Ribbon to the Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design.
