The young Gaetano, tired of his monotonous life, his family and his same old friends, decides to leave Naples in search of new experiences. Arrived in Florence, he is hosted by his aunt, he befriends with an Italian-American preacher named Frank and falls in love with the beautiful nurse Marta. The movie won the David di Donatello for Bes Film and Best Actor to Massimo Troisi. Moreover the film won the Silver Ribbon for Best New Director, Best Producer, Best New Actor to Massimo Troisi and Best Original Story. Massimo Troisi also won the italian Golden Globe for Best First Feature and Best Breakthrough Actor.
