Milan, with its metropolitan atmosphere, combined with the presence of its many historic buildings, the Cathedral, the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, the Sforzesco Castle, Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Teatro alla Scala, is the ideal location for many film productions, both italian and international: from the comedy of Totò and Peppino, to the "fantastic" neorealism of De Sica and his "Miracle in Milan", from the family dramas of Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers to the psychological dramas portrayed in "The Night" by Antonioni, moving to the comedies of Celentano and Pozzetto and arriving to the seriousness of the stories about politics and corruption, to many cop movies filmed in the city.
