Hitler against Picasso and the others: the Nazi obsession with art

It is a documentary on the wanderings, expropriation and looting of works of art during the Second World War.

The structure is the classic one of the documentary, but with an exceptional storyteller: Toni Servillo.

The film begins with the historical connections between art and Nazism and illustrates the mechanisms by which Hitler and his generals managed to appropriate art collections.

Obviously this is a kind of art that they had decided on. Only classical art, an instrument of defense and legitimization, was called that.

The other art, more edgy, more dangerous and revolutionary, was only to banish. It is born of different assumptions with respect to the "old" art; the simplest way is therefore to declare it degenerated, non-art.

The theme of the great raids of works of art during the Second World War has already been the subject of other films, such as, for example, Monuments Man by George Clooney.

But the cut given by the director Claudio Poli is different.

The main focuses are the function of art in the Nazi regime and the broken link between works and owners.
