One year after the special jury mention at the 52nd International Festival of New Cinema in Pesaro, it arrives in cinemas the film For a son by Suranga Deshapriya Katugampala.

An interesting film debut of director. Having arrived in Italy from Sri Lanka when he was 10, the director has built in Italy throughout his artistic career. Not surprisingly, in an interview a few days ago on Avvenire newspaper, he declared "I love the Italian neorealism, I learned from that and I feel that this film is deeply Italian".

Synopsis

Province of a city in northern Italy.

Sunita, a Sri Lankan middle-aged woman, divides her days between the work of caregivers and a teenage son. Among them reigns a silence full of tensions. It is a relationship marked by many conflicts.

Having grown up in Italy, he is the son of a cultural hybridization experience difficult to understand for the mother, committed to struggle to live in a country which does not want to belong.

Sunita is played by Kaushalya Fernando, one of the greatest actresses of Sri Lanka (Caméra d'Or at Cannes in 2005 with the film "The abandonnée lands"). Julian Wijesekara, who plays the son, is in his first test as an actor. Also starring Nella Pozzerle, actress from Velo Veronese for years part of the theater company Le Falie, in the shoes of the old woman of whom takes care Sunita. Also starring Shirantha Luise Fernando, Isabella Dilavello and Vishan Madhuka.
