Suspiria: after 40 years returns to the cinema restored the film of Dario Argento

Suspiria, the masterpiece of the Italian master of suspense Dario Argento, returns to the big screen. A special event which will run for three days, 30 to 31 January and 1 February 2017. The film is one of the valuable titles of library Videa. At 40 years after the first film output, it decided to restore it in 4K, starting from negative. This operation made it possible to preserve the original quality. The distribution was carried out by QMI / Stardust.

For the event they are been created new communication materials: the artwork Suspiria by Studio Grafite and the trailer by Saralardani.

The Restoration

The restoration was operated by the German laboratory TLEFilms Film Restoration & Preservation Services, starting from the original film. The 35 mm, damaged in various parts by lacerations, scratches and stains was carefully corrected digitally. The film was shot with negative Eastmancolor and was the last major production of this kind to have used the "Technicolor Dye Transfer" process.

Among the curiosity of the restoration also the creation of font Suspiria by the company Digital LVR of Rome. The company oversaw the rebuilding of credits of the movie. After acquiring the original frames of the film's opening credits it was reconstructed through a graphical masks technique, a partial alphabet. Subsequently, the titles have been rewritten on the master restored going to recover the original positions desired by the director.

Synopsis
