To Casacalenda for the Fifteenth Edition of Molise Cinema and many other good reasons

Molise CinemaThis week the proposal for a Weekend with cinema takes us to Molise. And precisely to Casacalenda, where the XV edition of Molise Cinema began on August 8 and will end on August 13.

The village

Molise CinemaCasacalenda is a small and charming village in the province of Campobasso.

There are many reasons to visit Casacalenda.

In the village territory is situated the Archaeological Site of Arx Calela, which was an ancient city of the Italic people of Frentani, corresponding to today's Casacalenda. About Calela speak Tito Livio and Polibio: here Annibale paused to spy on the moves of Fabio Massimo's legions laid out in the fields of Larino.

There are several monuments of historical and cultural interest: from Palazzo Ducale to Porta Capo, from the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore to the Convento di Sant'Onofrio, patron of the village of Casacalenda, dating from the 15th century, located just outside the village center.

Nature lovers can not help but visit the Oasi of Bosco Casale, also known as the oasis of Casacalenda. It is the first natural protected area established in the Molise region in 1993 and is managed by the Italian Bird Protection League (LIPU). The oasis occupies an area of 150.00 hectares and is located near the convent of Sant'Onofrio. You can visit it along the ancient paths used by the woodcutters for timber transport.

Folk music and folk traditions lovers will appreciate the opportunity to visit the multimedia museum of the bufù, a traditional musical instrument. With the presence of original photos, videos and instruments, you are catapulted into a peasant world full of traditions going back in time.

Since 1992, the Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art has been active and the Kalenarte outdoor museum, which allows you to admire works from authors from all over the world.

Last but not least are the food and wine temptations: from cheeses, true national excellence to the sauces that sink their roots in the ancient flavors.

Casacalenda and cinema

Molise CinemaFor Casacalenda, the relationship with cinema is also fueled by personal stories.

The actor Flavio Bucci was born in Turin, but half of his family has origin from Casacalenda.

And then Casacalenda also tasted the Oscar flavor. Original of the village is Mira Sorvino, daughter of actor Paul Sorvino and Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress for Interpretation in The Goddess of Love (1995) by Woody Allen. Grandmother Angela Renzi, Paul's mother, was from Casacalenda.

Molise Cinema Festival

Here, since 2003, the Molise Cinema Festival has been held and this year comes to the 15th edition. A difficult bet that has been won, passing during these years from a pioneering and amateur event to a Festival that has managed to make a niche for itself in the crowded national landscape.

The XV Edition, which began on August 8, is characterized by a particularly rich program.

There are 4 competing sections of the Festival (international courts; Italian courts; Italian documentaries; feature films first and second films). In addition to competitions, many other events, special screenings, meetings with protagonists, retrospectives, exhibitions and concerts are in progress at the festival.

Molise Cinema intends to promote the latest and innovative productions of Italian and international cinema, focusing on young authors and new languages, with particular attention to short films and documentaries.

With the section Girare il Molise, the Festival intends to further enhance Molise as a location for film and audiovisual productions.

In addition to Casacalenda, special events of the festival are also held in Larino, Campobasso and Venafro.

Many are guests who participated in Molise Cinema these days and those scheduled for the final weekend. Today Luigi Lo Cascio will be present; Tomorrow, Saturday, 12, there will be meetings with Anna Ferruzzo and Karen Di Porto; Sunday closing in beauty with Lino Guanciale, one of the most successful actors at this time.
