New York, 1863: American and Irish immigrants fight to carve up the territory and the management of the illegal business. Young Amsterdam, after being in prison, comes back in the neighborhood with the intention to avenge his father, killed by Bill the Butcher, who became the head of the underworld in the Five Points. The film won two Golden Globes for Best Director and Best Song. Also Daniel Day-Lewis wins a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. In Italy, the film won the Silver Ribbon for Best Production Design.
