Today, it is the eightieth anniversary of the inauguration of the Cinecittà Studios. It was April 28, 1937 when the Studios in Via Tuscolana 1055 in Rome were inaugurated by Benito Mussolini.

The project had been hypothesized since 1929, but it had become operational after the Cives' fires occurred in 1935.

The events of the realization of the Cinecittà Studios are rebuilt in this report of Rai 3.

Since April 28, 1937, there have been over 3000 Italian and foreign cinematic productions that have chosen Cinecittà. Of these films, 90 received an Oscar nomination and 47 won it.

And important productions are also expected for the future, starting with the second season of The Young Pope, the Sky series directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

A future which is still marked by uncertainties regarding the institutional governance of the Studios. In fact, since the nineties, Cinecittà's studies are privately owned with public participation. But for a long time it is talking about a return to the hands of the State and a recent amendment to the Milleproroghe Decree would allow to proceed in that direction.

On the occasion of the nineteenth anniversary several initiatives were planned.
