The other Italian in the competition for the Oscar: Alessandro Bertolazzi for make up with Suicide Squad

On February 26, next will be delivered the Oscar 2017.

Italy is competing with Fuocoammare for the documentary section. With increasing attention and endorsement that bode well.

But there is another Italian in the competition. Alessandro Bertolazzi, who along with Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson are running for the make up section with film Suicide Squad. Other films in the running for this section Star Trek Beyond and A Man Called Love.

For Italy there is a precedent. Manlio Rocchetti, who is died in recent weeks, in fact in 1990 he won the Academy Award for make up with Lynn Barber and Kevin Haney for the film Driving Miss Daisy. Suicide Squad is a 2016 film written and directed by David Ayer. The film is based on the homonymous group of super villains of DC Comics. The cast includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne. The film, released in August 2016 has been a great success for box receipts. Less positive comments instead by film criticism.

Alessandro Bertolazzi

Alessandro Bertolazzi is native of Vercelli. He moved as a boy with his family in Reggio Emilia. He has worked extensively in theater.

He collaborated with the great designer and illustrator Genoese Emanuele Luzzati. Then with Tadeusz Kantor, painter, set designer and theater director Polish, one of the major theorists of the twentieth century theater.

So the leap into cinema and the real turning professional with Monica Bellucci in Malena by Tornatore in 2000.

Bertolazzi becomes popular internationally. He works with the prestigious Milton Agency in London.

So many major films in which Bertolazzi worked; many great actors passed through his hands: Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Naomi Watts.
