Il papà di Giovanna Bologna, Italy, Thirties. Michele Casali is an unhelpful highschool teacher who decided to dedicate his life to the education of his daughter Giovanna, a young mentally unstable girl. When Giovanna, driven by jealousy, kills her best friend, she is convicted and sent to a psychiatric hospital, Michele is the only one to remain by her side. Alba Rohrwacher won the David di Donatello for Best Actress and the italian Golden Globe for Best Breakthrough Actress while Ezio Greggio and Francesca Neri won the Silver Ribbon for Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role. At the Venice Film Festival Silvio Orlando won the Volpi Cup for best actor and the Pasinetti Award.
